Bonfires’s
1340 Alafaya Trail
I really wanted to love this place, it is extremely close to
my house and could have been such a great place to hang out, but unfortunately
I do not have much good to say. I have visited this restaurant about 4 times,
every time hoping it would be better, no such luck. I will say that I have only visited the bar,
and have not sat in the dining room, but I can’t imagine it would make that
much of a difference. On one occasion my husband and I left cash on the bar for
our one beer each and left. We had intended on ordering food, but after the
bartender sat down on the outside side of the bar with some bar guests, then
came back in walked right past us, picked up her cell phone walked back outside
and sat down again without even acknowledging us we decided we would take our
appetites elsewhere. It was months before we went back, but decided to try
again. This time a manager was bartending because one bartender picked up a
shift for someone else, but then called in sick, great staff. The manager did a
great job and this was probably the best experience we have had there and was
far better than our first. We had pulled pork sandwiches that were pretty good,
nothing special but decent food, so we were optimistic. On our next visit we
stopped in and though this time the service was ok we ordered the beef brisket
nachos, the brisket was very dry and once you got passed the first couple chips
the toppings were scarce. Still this was just a quick visit,…note to self don’t
order the nachos…but we would be back. Our last visit was the deal breaker for
me, my husband and I had went out for
dinner at another establishment and had a great time and just wanted to stop at
Bonfire’s for a drink before heading home. I went into the restroom, the toilet
had a ring around the inside that looked like it had not been cleaned the
entire year the restaurant has been open and the bathroom itself was generally
just dirty. I was pretty grossed out because if the employees are ok with this
kind of nastiness in the restroom I am guessing cleanliness in other areas is
lacking as well. I joined my husband at the bar; we hung out and had a couple
of shots and were ready for the check. We were charged for doubles for our
shots, we didn’t order doubles, they didn’t appear to be large shots and as a former
bartender and bar manager I have some experience with shots. I asked the
bartender why they were rang in as doubles and she said “if I gave you a single
it would be really small”, and held up her fingers to demonstrate the size as a
little sliver of a shot. I really did not want to argue over a couple of
dollars but honestly, a shot is a standard amount of liquor and though it is up
to the bar owner what that standard amount will be, it should be up to me if I
want to double it. If she really believed the single was too small she should
have advised me of that when I ordered, and let me decide. My bigger concern
though is, if I order a single mixed drink is she telling me that I am only
getting a little bit of liquor, good grief what is your standard pour, am I
getting ripped off on mixed drinks, and overcharged on shots? We have stopped
in later at night when a friend of ours who is a regular has been there and I
can tell you we were not charged for any doubles, in fact we weren’t charged
for much at all. There are obviously no standards here, I am sure my double was
to offset the shots that were given away to somebody else. Management really
needs to get a hold of things, and I can’t imagine the owner could be blind to
all of this. I have looked up other reviews and did not find many happy
customers. Wake up and take some pride in your business!!
The Husband: So disappointing, not worth the time to score.
